I love photo mosaics (duh!). But I really love when artists incorporate inventive and unique ideas to elevate the mosaic concept even further. Transforming old, sometimes unused, objects into works of art is even better! I guess I don’t need to tell you my interest was piqued when I came across these stunning photo mosaic installations from audiovisual artist Daniel Canogar.
Canogar uses old, used DVDs to build massive collage/mosaic projection screens. These screens are then used to create massive video mosaics; each disc is assigned its own video content that changes to build the larger photo mosaic image. The discs also reflect their images out into the room, fully engaging the audience. Are you senses still not satisfied? Each video soundtrack is layered on top of one another, creating a beautiful, pulsating wash of sound.
The result of all this is a shimmering, hypnotic, sequinned effect, allowing you as the viewer to really immerse yourself in the full audiovisual experience. Check out the video below and be sure to visit Daniel Canogar’s website for even more info and videos.
